Speebot (3D platformer) gameplay in HD

Posted by keyreal - March 5th, 2017

I've recorded a 1080p 60fps video of one of the later levels of the first world in Speebot. There will be 4 worlds, and over 200 levels in total!

Blog post: https://kircode.com/post/speebot-gameplay-in-hd

I'm thinking of releasing a public demo of the first few levels soon.

By the way, the game is written in a custom game engine, you can read more about it here: https://kircode.com/post/yume-my-custom-3d-game-engine-is-one-year-old

Do you like what you see? Feedback and suggestions are welcome!

Uh, shouldn't robot instead of a regular shadow, have a drop "blob" shadow directly underneath it (disregardng actual lighting) for easier jump orientation in 3D?
I mean, in a 3D platformer this is basically a must, with combination of drop shadow and model player will always know exactly where they are in a space (i.e. they will know exactly how high up they are instantly and instinctively).

I like the whole 90 degree angle thing though, it really helps with making sure that weird jump and camera angles aren't necessary - it kind of reminds me of Super Mario 3D Land.
One question - this looks tile-based - will there be a level editor?

No, I like the shadows, plus the early levels of the game are designed to make the player comfortable with the movement, and it's easy to tell where the robot is going to land after playing a bit.

Yes, there will be a level editor. Thanks for the feedback!

Looks really good, like something I myself would love to play!

But I have to agree with shinobody in what concerns a drop shadow. I know the camera angle helps, but as heights change, it'd be something good to have.
